William Edem Fugar

William Edem Fugar is the Managing Partner of Fugar & Company, with over 53 years of post‑call experience (admitted October 1973). He is a Barrister, Solicitor and Notary Public, specialising in Energy Law, Corporate Law, Banking, Investment, Commercial Law, Mining Law, International Business Transactions, Mercantile and Shipping Law, and Intellectual Property. He has appeared and participated in all stages of litigation at all levels of the Ghanaian court structure, and has also participated in conciliation and arbitration.

He has advised on landmark transactions including the setting up of Teberebie Goldfields Limited (the second largest gold mining company in Ghana at the time), financing for Ashanti Goldfields Limited and Goldfields Ghana Limited, joint ventures in the oil and gas sector, thermal power projects for the Volta River Authority, and international financings involving Merrill Lynch, HSBC, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Standard Chartered Plc. He has also advised the Commonwealth Development Corporation, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and African Development Bank (ADB), and served as legal adviser to a wide range of multinational companies including Unilever, Toyota Ghana, Cargill, GT Bank, Access Bank, UBA, and Anadarko WCT Company Ltd. He is on the Panel of Arbitrators of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) in China.

He holds a BA (1967) and an LL.B (Hons) (1971) from the University of Ghana, and a BL from the Ghana School of Law (1973). He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association and a Notary Public. He has served as a Director of numerous companies and as a lecturer and examiner at Accra Polytechnic for examinations organised by the Institute of Bankers, Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.
